Monthly Points Update June 2017

June!

Can’t believe we’re half way through the year.  It’s flown by…even though I (sadly) haven’t done that much flying.  Luckily, the summer has a lot of travel coming up:  Austin this month, Denver/South Dakota the next, and Nashville in August.  Meanwhile, I’ve been socking away points and waiting for the time to travel!

As always, you can check out my cumulative points at the Keeping Score page on the top banner.

Points Update January 2017

Second post!

If you remember my post from last month, this will become a monthly item on the writing board.  Rather than just updating my Keeping Score page, I want to explain a few things.  You know, why I do what I do.

If I just put numbers in front of you, I’m the only one that’s going to benefit from it.  If I explain those numbers, I hope it helps you a little bit too!

My goal?

I want to get everyone travelling a bit more, and a bit cheaper, too.

Points Update December 2016

Hey everyone!

Remember that Keeping Score page I created a while back?

I totally understand if you don’t remember.  I realized the page wasn’t entirely useful in its current state.  You see, I update it every month.  That’s great for me, I get to see how far I’ve come.  But for somebody just finding this blog, it’s not so helpful.  So you have a lot of points?  Cool.

It’d be a lot more helpful if I explained how to get those, huh?

I’ve decided to write a monthly post, outlining the biggest changes and updates to my portfolio of points and miles.  This will be the inaugural post, and just about every month I’ll write a new update, to coincide with updating the page itself.

After a Year of Travel Hacking…

First off, this post is a bit late!  I’ve been running around a lot September and October, and haven’t had the time to get this post together until today.

I consider the day I applied for the Barclaycard Arrival+ to be the true beginning of my travel hacking journey.  That means as of September 24th, 2016, I’ve been addicted for exactly one year.  So, this post is a month overdue.

It just so happens that I’m wrapping up my year of travel hacking coming from last weekend at the Chicago Seminars.  I’ll write up a bit more about this event soon, but it’s basically a conference for travel hacking, run by some great FlyerTalk folks.  What better way to commemorate one year in the game?

If you remember, I was spurred into this new hobby by my trip to Peru last year.  It was nothing short of eye-opening.  I knew I wanted to travel more.

I had caught the travel bug.

I also knew I didn’t want to pay big money for travel, like everyone else seems to think you have to.  Travel hacking enabled me to meet both of those goals:  travel and frugality.  Using the miles gained from the sign up bonus on that first card, and a bit more everyday spending, I cashed in those Arrival+ miles for $500 towards flights to Florida to see some of the family, and enjoy a few days at Disney World.

Let’s see where I’m at now, shall we?
